Some inspiration

Cynthia asked me about photography tips or suggestions. I really don’t think that there is a replacement for practice (one of the reasons I’m doing this project). Pick what you want to be doing and start learning from your mistakes and successes. Dive in. Everyone shoots a little differently, and you have to find your path. I’ll talk about photography all day, but hands on a camera is the best teacher.
I can however give a list of some of my inspirations:
  • Kirk Tuck - Austin based photographer, writer and curmudgeon. The blue collar answer to the high gloss photo world. He is a working man’s photographer. No nonsense.
  • Robert Shults - Austin art photographer and friend. Great work and a great sense of who he is and how he wants to express his artistic vision.
  • Jay Maisel - Incredible street photographer out of NYC. He is a real New York character. Salty and astute. Check out any of the interviews with him, they are all golden. Kelby Training has two hour+ long wandering interviews with him that are actually part of the inspiration for this project. Well worth the $25 per/month fee for the site.
  • Chase Lisbon - Art pornographer - NSFW. He developed a unique look and makes really interesting provocative art, the subject of which happens to be naked ladies.
